Sports Physicals Cedar Park and Liberty Hill, TX

We'll Get You Ready for Sports Season

Organized sports are an integral part of life for many kids, offering the chance to get active while learning important skills that can help them succeed for the rest of their lives. But before they can hit the field or the court, they need comprehensive sports physicals and healthcare provider permission to participate.

Impact Family Wellness includes these physical exams in the long list of services we provide to members of our direct primary care practice in Cedar Park and Liberty Hill. We perform thorough exams of young student-athletes to ensure they are healthy enough for the physical activities their chosen sport demands and don’t have any underlying conditions that increase their risk of injury.

We know you’re busy, and waiting weeks for an appointment to have a provider complete a physical form for a sports program isn’t always practical. Our small, nurse practitioner-run practice makes it easy for our member patients to get the care they need and get on with their lives without hassles or high costs.

What Happens During a Sports Physical?

Most sports physicals include the same elements as a well-child or school physical.

The thorough examination includes:

  • A medical history review covering their current medications, recent illnesses or surgeries, and any previous injuries (sports-related or not)
  • Checking their heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration
  • Checking their balance, reflexes, and overall motor function
  • Performing a general physical examination to evaluate the overall health
  • Administering any required vaccines

Your provider will also offer education and counseling on how to avoid sports injuries. They’ll review the importance of stretching and cooling down, how to choose the right gear, and tips for nutrition and hydration.

Concussions are a serious concern for student-athletes, especially those playing contact sports like football. During the visit, our nurse practitioners will provide concussion education, including how to avoid head injuries, recognize the signs of a concussion, and what to do if you suspect one.

Most of these exams are fairly quick compared to the more comprehensive annual well-child visit but don’t delay making an appointment. Without a completed physical form, your child won’t be able to attend practices or games.
