It's time for Open Enrollment!

Monica McKitterick • November 1, 2019

It's that time of year when you are forced to make decisions about your health care coverage for the next year of your life.  Do you know what medical issues or concerns you may face in the next 12 months? Unfortunately, you are in the same boat as the rest of the nation as we are all asked to pull out our crystal balls and decide how much medical coverage we will need for the coming year.

Luckily, you now have choices! Just because your employer offers you health insurance doesn't mean it's a good option for you. Make sure you do your homework and ensure that your health plan meets the needs of your needs, not the needs of the insurance company.

A sign that says open enrollment on it

Insurance plans are confusing, and I feel they do that on purpose. HMO vs PPO? Co-pay vs high deductible? 80/20 vs 70/30? Prescription coverage? It's all very confusing.

So how do you navigate this system? You must look at your options

1. Insurance based options - if you are a young, healthy family/individual then the low premium/high deductible plan is likely the right option. Talk with your benefits HR department to ensure you understand your options.

2. Health Share options - these plans are comparable to a co-op. Young, healthy people are grouped together to help cover medical needs but at a much lower monthly premium

3. Obamacare - If you qualify from a financial standpoint this can be a great option.

4. DIRECT PRIMARY CARE (my personal favorite) - Affordable price transparency, quality care you can actually use, no hidden fees or concerns about large, unexpected bills. Let Impact Family Wellness show you why Direct Primary Care is such a great option.
